Is Clotrimazole Effective In The Treatment Of Fungal Skin Infection?

My doctor has prescribed Clotrimazole Cream USP, 1% for a foot fungus. I am allergic to any product which has CHLORO in it. After picking up the product, I read the papers inside and it says the antifungal agent having the chemical name (1-(o-Chloro-a,a-diphenyylbenzyl)imidazole) which alert me. I have not opened the tube yet and feel I should consult with my doctor before using the product. Do you agree?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

This cream contains clotrimazole which is an azole antifungal so I dont think so that you should face any allergic reaction, because of its azole content but since you are apprehensive you can try a small patch of it on the inner side of the hand, or you can go back to your doctor he will prescribe you another antifungal agent like itraconazole.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Medhavi Agarwal
