Is DVT Possible Without Redness And Swelling?

Is it possible to have DVT with no redness and swelling? I ve had cramping/stabbing pain in my left calf off and on over the past three weeks, it has slowly started to hurt more and more. I went to a walk-in clinic and they wouldn t even consider DVT because there was no swelling.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, the hallmark of DVT is swelling. It is extremely unlikely to be DVT if there is no swelling. Redness might or might not be there. The pain in your calf could be due to various other causes. If the pain appears on walking it could be arterial problem. If it occurs on the first step of walking then it could be a nerve problem. You should get examined by a Surgeon who can evaluate these issues. Then only proper treatment can be started.
Do not worry but with proper evaluation you will get the best treatment.
Take care,
Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
