Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Depakote 875mg Daily Intake Considered A High Dose For Treating Bipolar Disorder?
my daughter takes 875 mg. of depakote daily for bipolar with mania. She is now very depressed and not sleeping well. She has never experienced this type of depression before. She is 15. Could her dosage be too high? She has been taking the meds for 2 years.
Yes, Depakote daily is not considered a high dose for her bipolar disorder problems at her age (15 years). Should discuss with her doctor for her sleeping problems.
Might need another pill to keep her calm at night. For the moment, I can suggest giving her Valeriana, chamomile and passiflora tea or supplement to ease her mind and make her sleep naturally.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
