Is Doxycycline Advisable Post Completing A Course Of Azithromycin?

Last week a family member who is a doctor prescribed azithromycin for my facial pressure, lethargy and slight sore throat. However, now the sore throat is worse and I went to my family doctor and they did swab for strep and tonsillitis which I don't have. They prescribed Doxycycline to take for sore throat. Is it okay to start Doxycycline a day after finishing up the azithromycin? I didn't tell my family doctor that my family member (who is doctor) prescribed the azithromycin last week and that I just finished it.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes it would be okkay if you start doxycycline after completing a course of Azithromycin. Your doctor must have done culture test by swabbing your throat. In culture test the micro-organism found from site of infection are grown & then an antibiotic is given to check which antibiotic would be better effective against those micro-organisms. In this way antibiotic sensitive to bacteria is given.
Along with doxycycline, you should do Salt Water Gargle. Mix 1 tsp of salt with warm water in a glass. With this gargle for roughly 15-20 seconds and spit out. You can repeat this as needed for 2-3 days. Just remember to spit the contents after gargle. This is a good method to reduce swelling in sore throat

Refer to your physician

Hope this information helps
