Is Doxycycline Effective In The Treatment Of Malaria?

Hello this will be my third trip to Gambia and I was wondering if doxycycline is a good choice for Malaria. The last time I was on Malarone generic med for it and I was peppered bad with a rash but continued with it because it s all I had with me. Was this a reaction to the drug?

Malarone can cause allergic reactions which are quite severe for the user to continue. Anyway since you had no choice and it worked also, it's OKay.
Now Doxycyclin does work in Malaria as long as the Protozoa is not resistant to it. Also it has to be taken for at least 15 days and probably even longer if no relief.
All types of malaria are now considered resistant to Chloroquin except the malaria endemic and acquired in the Middle East. For all the Chloroquin resistant and multi drug resistant malarias, Doxycyclin is an excellent drug. It even does away with the liver inhabitant parasites. Also it has been successfully used for preventive purposes-prophylaxis .So good enough that you have it this time.
Godspeed!
