Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Effexor Advisable Instead Of Pristiq For High Cholesterol?
I have been on Pristiq for eight years. Due to insurance changes, I will no longer be able to afford it. Also, I am having cholesterol and triglyceride issues. My PA is changing me to Effexor 37.5 mg from the Pristiq 50 mg. I am very concerned about withdrawal symptoms? What should I expect? I am also experiencing menopause so anxiety is everywhere. Thank you so much.
First of all both of these medications are not for high cholesterol, these are antidepressants.
Effexor (venalafaxine) is more effective than Pristiq (desvenalafaxine). And both of these medications will give rise to anxiety.
So you have to use some mood stabilizer drugs along with anti-anxiety drugs such as escitalopram, sertraline etc. For High cholesterol Febuxostat, tonact etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
