Is Enteragam Powder Safe And Effective For Constipation?
My wife has had problems with constipation in the last 4 months. She has had 2 upper and lower GI tests and all have come back normal and not problems etc. Today her dr. prescribed her enteragam powder and I have been reading on it and it seems to me this is more for diarrhea than for constipation. Is this true or normal to prescribe this for constipation.
As you stated, it is predominantly used in persons with diarrhea so you may want to consider speaking to her doctor for clarification, there may be a specific reason that it was prescribed.
In addition to this medical therapy, if it is continued, she would need to consider the following: (1) making sure to use at least 8 glasses of fluid daily
This does not include coffee/caffeine drinks or alcohol because these products cause the body to urinate more and actually lose more fluids
(2)at least 5 servings of fruit and vegetables daily
(3)increase whole grain and other high fiber foods
(4) may also need to consider a fiber supplement such as metamucil, cetrucil, benefiber
I hope this helps
