Is Esomeprazole The Right Medicine For Acid Reflux?

Hi. I was diagnosed with acid reflux many years ago and have been on Nexum (40mg) for a long time. I changed over to omeprazole last june. It has not been working well of late. I was changed again, this time to esomeprazole. Worked well for three days then I was back to where I started. I ve been using the esomeprazole for almost two weeks. The burning is bad. Over the counter Tums doesn t help, even in large quantities (4,8,12). any suggestions of another medication.

Brief answer: Yes, Esomeprazol is often prescribed for Acid reflux.

Detailed answer: Nexium (40mg) is the same drug as Esomeprazol. so it seems that you were retransfered to Esomeprazol after incomplete relief with Omeprazol.
For better symptom relief the medicine can be taken twice daily instead of usual single daily dose.
I would also recommend adding another class of acid reducing agents at bed time like Ranitidine if even the twicea day treatment with Esomeprazol is not enough. Also take antacid like Gelusil in case of severe heart burn.
