General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for choosing HCM.
I understand your concern.
Medication 'Excedrin' contains a combination of acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine.
The actions of these compounds are as follows:
1. Acetaminophen is a pain reliever and reduces fever.
2. Aspirin works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, fever and inflammation.
3. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant and it relaxes muscle contractions in blood vessels to improve blood flow.
Hence, Excedrin is used to treat pain caused by tension headaches, migraine headaches, muscle aches, menstrual cramps, arthritis and toothaches.
Since 'Aspirin' is gastric mucosal irritant, consumption of this medication could result in heartburn, nausea and upset stomach as side effects. It is advisable to consume this medication after food or consume along with antacid medications.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
Wish you good health and speedy recovery.
Regards,
