Is FBS Value Of 113 A Cause For Concern?

I had a fasting glucose of 113 with a strong family history of diabetes. I am 45 years old, 130 lbs, 5 3 and exercise 5-6 times a week. I have just recently gained 8.5 pounds very rapidly but my TSH is normal. Should I be concerned with the 113 glucose?

I can understand your concern.
You are having impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).
Fasting blood sugar level less than 90 rules out diabetes.
Fasting blood sugar level more than 126 confirms diabetes.
Fasting blood sugar value between 90 and 126 is suggestive of IGT. This suggests that there is high possibility of future development of diabetes.
So your Fasting blood sugar level of 113 makes you prone for diabetes development.
You are also having strong family history of diabetes. So you are at risk of development of diabetes in future.
So strict anti diabetic diet should be followed. Start regular aerobic exercise like running, cycling, swimming etc.
Get done HbA1C. This will tell you your average sugar of last three months.
If this is more than 6.5 then you will need anti diabetic drug.
