Is Gabapentin Advisable For Nerve Pain In Lower Legs?

Hi...I am a 56 year old female and was just prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain in my lower back/legs. I am very cautious about taking any kind of pill. I have only been on enalapril for high blood pressure...nothing else. I hate pills but need some pain relief. What are your thoughts on taking this pill?
