Is Heparin Injection Mandatory During Pregnancy With History Of Stroke?

Hello Doctor, Myself Latha from India. I had a stroke at the age of 16 and now I am conceived. my doctor now giving me folicxt tablets and ecosprin and also heparin injection daily. My question is does heparin injection is really required? My recent Protein S test was showing normal.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, if your wife had a history of having prothrombotic state, she may need long term heparin during pregnancy as pregnancy is also a risk factor and increased incidence of DVT or Pulmonary embolism can coexist so it's better to follow the instructions of her treating doctor.
