Is Hepatitis C Contagious?

Hi, I was working with a patient. He had a know history of hep c. We were giving him water and he spit with some of it splattering on my face. He did not have a history of hiv but I didn't see where he was tested either. He had earlier that morning had coffee ground throw up. Is there any reason to be concerned about possible hep c or hiv from this?

Thanks for contacting with your health concern and both HCV and HIV are blood borne disease and one cannot get infected if someone with the disease has splattered water/coffee ground on your face.

1. Not even sharing a cup or eating utensils with an infected person or hugging, holding hands, kissing [unless there is/are mouth ulcers], sneezing or coughing can make a person infected, main caution is to avoid handling/sharing the personnel items of that person
