Is Hydromorphone HCL Advisable While Having An Enlarged Prostate?

One, why is hydromorphone HCL potentially restricted when patient has enlarged prostate and two why should a patient with recent mod to sever C. diff not use it for other pain control...several lumbar surgeries. I will never take a fluoroquinilone again.

Hi,

It's restricted because it can cause urinary retention and with history of BPH or prostate issues it can worsen the frequency of retention. In such cases OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used. If pain is severe more potent analgesic like Gabapentin can be used.
