Is IUD Insertion The Best Treatment For Complex Hyperplasia Without Atypica And How Bad Are The Side Effects?

I have been diagnosed with complex hyperplasia without atypica. I am scheduled for D&C and insertion of Minerva IUD. With what I have read about IUDs, I am worried about side effects re: harmonal issues (I could not take all types of birth control without reaction) and hair loss. Any advice and suggestions? How bad are the IUDs really? And is this the best treatment?

Hi and thank you so much for this query

IUDs are safe. There is very little reasons to get worried about it. It is a reliable and very effective method of contraception. The side effects though may sound scary are very rare in reality. However, enough precautions are always taken tp provide you with nothing but the best possible treatment.

I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for patronizing our services and please do feel free to ask for follow up clarifications and information if need be. I wish you the best of health.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

You have Complex hyperplasia without atypia. This is mostly due to body produces excess estrogen without progesterone, the endometrial lining never sheds. The condition often occurs during menopause when the ovaries stop releasing eggs and progesterone is not made.

Your need definitely need treatment because Women with Complex hyperplasia without atypia are 10% increased risk of Endometrial cancer.

Your doctor suggested the usual treatment for Complex hyperplasia without atypia.
D& C is to evaluate the endometrium changes.
Mirena IUD contains preogestins called Levonorgesterol.
As i already mentioned, you are deficent of Progesterone, thus this IUD may supplement the natural Progesterone.

These complex hyperplasia without atypica may resolve after these treatment and in most women resolved.

In turn this IUD provides contraceptive benefits in addition and its effectiveness lasts for 5 years.
but you need periodical review with your gynecologist to rule out any progression of Hyperplasia to Atypia or cancer.

You have questioned about best treatment.

If you completed your family with children, then best option is hysterectomy.
Otherwise D & C with Mirena IUD is the best suggestion for you.

As all other IUDs, These too have the side effects like irregular periods, frequent spotting or light bleeding, etc. But these side effects will go away as the body adjusts to the hormonal changes.
In turn progestreone, helps in preventing the hair loss and helps to counter balance the negative effects of estrogen like weight gain, anxiety, hair loss, low libido, fibrocystic breasts and uterine fibroids

Have regular review and check up with your gynecologist.
Check pap smear for any cervical changes and examination of breast for any lumps.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
