Is IUI A Good Option To Get Pregnant When Diagnosed With PCOD?

My wife has been on metphomine for over six months now. We have tried clomid for four times and we still don t have the desired results. Because she is suffering from polycrystic Ovarian syndrome. Now we are thinking of going for IUI. Pls what is our chance.

Hallow Dear,

You seem to have confusion about the modus operandi of IUI and the pathology in PCOS.

In PCOS, due to hormonal imbalance, the eggs are not released.

In IUI - Intrauterine Insemination, the sperms are instilled inside the uterine cavity to eliminate any factors in the vagina or otherwise and help reach good amount of sperms inside the uterine cavity. These sperms swim towards the released egg and fertilize it in the tube.

If there is no egg release, the sperms inside the uterine cavity will go waste. In PCOS since egg is not getting released, IUI will not work.

Instead in PCOS, by different modalities and treatments available, the egg release should be established and achieved which will be available for fertilization. Then if the other factors like vaginal hostility or low sperm count are demanding, IUI may be preferred.

I am sure I have made your confusion clear.
