Is Levaquin 500 Mg The Right Medicine For Productive Painful Cough?

Hi I am experiencing a productive painful cough with yellow green sputum. This began just two days ago. I went to my PCP yesterday who prescribed LEVAQUIN 500 1 pill qd for 7 days. Also, he prescribed symbicort for use BID. His instructions were if I do not improve to begin a PREDNISOLONE pack, which he provided. I am a non smoker, no fever, but I do have body aches. I hate to take steroids. How long do you think I should give this course of therapy before oving on to the steroids if I do not improve?

Hi,yes Levoquain (500 mg)once a day for 7 days and Symbicort would help in your case.

You might also get relief from taking Analgesic (like Ibuprofen),Antihistaminic (like Cetrizine),Antacid(like Rantac),Cough Expectorant (Ambroxol/Guaifenesin).Also do Steam inhalation.Avoid cold/oily food.Avoid Dust and other pollutants.

You can take this course of medicines for 7 days.

If you are not improving,You might need to take follow-up of your doctor.He might advise you Chest Xray and Sputum examination to reach the Diagnosis before starting oral steroids.
