Is Lisinopril A Good Alternative To Valsartan For BP Treatment?

Hello,I'm taking Valsartan 160mg for Bp.I ran out of my medication and i can't see a doctor until Jan.My husband offered me to take his Bp medication which is Lisinopril 12.5 mg. I'm reluctant to take it because some medications make my bp go down so fast. Thank you for the advise.

Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. Both medications work in the same way, so we use them interchangeably. 12.5 however is a less potent dose than 160 of valsartan, so it may need to be adjusted. There are some side effects with this medication the most common being dry cough, the most serious being angioedema (swelling of airway)

Hope this helps, wish you the best,
