Is Lithium A Safe Drug For A 12 Year Old Suffering With Bipolar ?

I have a 12 year old who has been diagnosed (by one professional) as bi-polar. He has been prescribed 450 mg of lithium daily. This concerns me. I am a non-custodial parent living 2300 miles away but I want to get as much info as possible, because I don't particularly agree with drugging children (I was an original 80's Ritalin kid, and I don't like how it affected me)

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, this is not good idea at all to give the child lithium, I would strongly advise to consult the good paediatrician at least for the kid, but never ever give such drug I hope this answer could help you, take good care of child, bye.
