Is Lo Ovral Safe While Having Irregular Periods?

I have had irregular menstrual cycles since i was in my teens. I am 26 now. I was on Lo Estrin and it first it was ok but then I started to get my period 2 times in 30 days. I spoke to my OBGYN and got off the pill. For 3 months I had my period every 5 weeks. The 4th month off the pill I got it after 4 weeks. The 5th month off the pill I didn't get it at all. It has been bout 8 weeks since my last period. I m not pregnant. I was prescribed a drug that my OBGYN said would force me to get my period. I have never heard of a drug like this before. I kind of wanted to have a second opinion. I am guessing I can not have anything specific online but if you could at least let me know if this doesn't sound right that would be great. Additionally my OBGYN prescribed me Lo Ovral as a birth control to get back on after I force my period. I read a review on line that says that I should not take Lo Ovral if I have irregular menstrual cycle. I was under the impression that it was actually going to help just that. PLEASE HELP. Thank you
