Is MRI Scan Necessary After Knee Injury?

I hurt my knee recenly during sports. Went to a doctor where they did x-rays. I was scheduled for a MRI in a few days. He thinks there is a meniscal injury. I'm feeling 50% better today with iceing on/off for 15 minutes. Wearing my brace...since I'm seeing such improvement, do I bother with MRI?
