Is Marinol A Synthetic Drug?

I have heard that Marinol is synthetic based. Not a natural marijuana derivitive. Is this true? And if so, what chemicals are used? How does Marinol differ from medical marijuana for pain, spasms, ect.? I use medical marijuana for bladder spasms for a neurogenic bladder , to help prevent me from an ER visit or self-cathing myself. I ve been ordered to get a subscription for Marinol and can t find a Dr. to perscripe it? I m worried about side effects since I ve heard its synthetic.

Yes, Marinol is not a natural marijuana derivative, but a synthetic one. Plant based marijuana contains many cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabidiol and others. But Marinol contains only dronabinol, which is a synthetically produced isomer of tetrahydrocannabinol. It is US FDA approved only for treatment of anorexia in AIDS patients and for refractory nausea and vomiting of patients undergoing chemotherapy. Perhaps that is why you are finding it difficult to get a prescription for bladder spasms.
