Is Mederma Advisable To A Child For Hypertrophic Scar On The Chest?
My 6-year old sustained a laceration on one side of his chest involving skin and subcutaneous tissue from wrecking his bike, suture removed two weeks later. Now two months after the incident, he has hypertrophic scar, about ten centimeters long, one centimeter wide towards midline of the chest, slanting upwards, and gets narrower towards the shoulder. I have been using cocoabutter. Do you recommend Mederma for kids? Is it very effective in fading scar? Does the scar can still be counted as new scar? please let me know if there is other better stuff out there that can be helpful in making the scar flat and less visible. Thank you very much in advance!
Yes, Mederma can be applied on hypertrophic scars as long as there is no itching, burning sensation and scar has no such chance of being open or tensed. Yes, it is completely safe for children at proper doses. Lookout for allergy cause it may cause anaphylaxis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
