Is Mefenamic Acid Effective In The Treatment Of Alzheimer’s Disease?

Just watched awakening from alzeheimers and there seemed some reference to use of mefenamic acid as a preventive and treatment for alzeheimers as well as coconut oil used for the same. I really have my doubts, but what is the current study with either of them?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Alzheimer's disease is a chronic progressive neurologic disorder associated with dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior

Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer's.

But drug and non-drug treatments may help with both cognitive and behavioral symptoms.

As per FDA the commonly prescribed medications include Donepezil, Galantamine and Rivastigmine to treat the cognitive symptoms (memory loss, confusion, and problems with thinking and reasoning.

Memantine is prescribed to improve memory, attention, reason, language and the ability to perform simple tasks.

As of date there is no scientific study done to find out the efficacy of Mefenemic acid or coconut oil in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Hope this answers.
