Is Meloxicam The Right Medicine For Kidney Problems?

My doctor tested my kidney functioning about two months ago. He discovered that my kidneys were not functioning at their optimum level. He told me to stop taking aleve and other anti-inflammatory meds. The other day he prescribed meloxicam for my osteoarthritis. I reminded him about my kidneys. He told me to take the meloxicam anyway. He said it would not hurt my kidneys. Should I take it. I have not gotten the prescription filled.
