Is Met Formin Effective In Treatment Of PCOD?

Hello doctors, my wife was prescribed met formin 850 for pcod. Can someone please advice if that is the correct medicine and if it has any steroids.
We are based in Africa but visiting India and will buy them from Mumbai. Any specific brand suggested.

Hi,

Polycystic ovarian disease presents with irregular menstrual periods, anovulation, etc. due to reproductive hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, etc. Metformin helps in reducing the insulin resistance and increasing the sensitivity of the tissues to insulin. It doesn't contain any steroids. But you may need to use for a few months to get the required result. And other drugs like hormonal pills, antioxidants, etc. may also be added for effective treatment of PCOD.

Actual drug is more important than the brand. You can take the brand prescribed by your doctor. Other popular brands in India are Glymet, Bigomet, Diamet etc.
