Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Naproxen Advisable For Neuroma On The Right Foot While Treating TIA?
I have a neuroma on my right foot and have been prescribed naproxen 500mg one to be taken twice daily for a month. Just over a year ago I had a suspected Tia and was prescribed Amlodipine 5mg which I took for 3months. I asked to stop taking them because my ankles kept swelling. Since then I have had six monthly blood pressure checks. Should I be taking Naproxen.
Age, gender, any other medication for stroke not mentioned. Based on the history given in your query I am of the opinion that Naproxen is not advisable after having suffered from TIA.
Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly prescribed for the treatment of pain and swelling associated with arthritis, muscle or ligament sprain, bursitis and other conditions.
Use of Naproxen is associated with significantly high blood pressure and thrombosis (clot formation) which are well-known risk factors for the stroke.
I would advise you to take paracetamol with or without opioid-like tramadol for the relief of pain due to neuroma on the foot or Naproxen can be used for as short as possible duration.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
