Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Normaxin-RT Effective For Severe Vomiting In Children?
My grand daughter, aged 14 years, is vomitting everything - whatever she eats/drinks, since last 6 months. She is using antacid, digestive enzymes, etc., but there is no improvement. Doctors say that there is no abnormality reported in CT scan, Ultra Sound and other blood reports. The doctor has prescribed Normaxin-RT twice before food accompanied by Electral. Shall be thankful for your guidance.
It is not effective for severe vomiting. Normaxin-RT is a combination of medicines (chlordiazepoxide, clidinium, cicyclomine, and rabeprazole) commonly prescribed to relieve cramps and abdominal pain associated with the irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, and peptic ulcer disease. It is not useful in the treatment of vomiting.
Based on the history your grand daughter seems to be suffering from cyclic vomiting syndrome. However other possibilities such as gastro-esophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer, and migraine should be ruled out. I suggest her to take prochlorperazine or ondansetrone for the control of severe vomiting.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
