Is Nortriptyline Advisable For Migraine Headache?

I have been getting 5-6 migraine headaches a month for the last year. I usually get 2-3 per month. Still take 50 mg sumatriptan but wonder if I should be going back to taking noritrytylene as a preventative again. I really hate to revert back to using another drug. I know most of my triggers now -yet sometimes for no reason (some anxiety) maybe I have been having more frequent headaches.

Hello,

However I think the dose is higher. You did not get benefit from lower doses or paracetamol + caffeine?

If you have frequent episodes in month, then definitely prophylactic treatment is required. Start with Propranolol 20 mg per day dose and increase up to 60 mg. If not relieved, then add drugs like Flunarizine, Divalproaxe, or Amitriptiline etcetera step by step.

However for that you need to consult physician for getting prescription. As these medications are not given without doctor's prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
