Is Olmesartan Hydrochlorothiazide Advisable Over Benicar?

I have been taking Benicar 20/12.5 for years. Now my pharmacy is trying to switch me to olmesartan hydrochlorothiazide. Yhe last time I tried a generic I was not pleased, Can you give me any information about this drug they are trying to switch me to?

I can understand your concern.

Benicar is a branded formulation of Olmesartan.

Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist which is commonly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure.

It is sometimes given together with other BP lowering medications like Hydrochlorthiazide.

Since you have been switched over to Olmesartan plus Hydrochlorthiazide which is equally effective and potent in treating high BP as that of Benicar Hct combination, so it can be taken safely.
