Is Oxybutynin 10 Mg Advisable For Frequent Urination?

I was prescribed Oxybutynin 10mg tablets for frequent urination, especially at night. The comments seen here make me not want to try it, especially dry mouth, dizziness, heartburn, and these people stopped it. Is there a chance you might not have the side effects?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, it is advisable for the treatment of frequent urination. Oxybutynin which has both antimuscarinic and antispasmodic effects is commonly prescribed to treat urinary incontinence episodes.

It is found to be up to 90% effective in reducing frequent urination. Generally it is well tolerated by most of our patients however some of its common side effects include dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, and increased heart beats.

It is not necessary that you also get these side effects. So, continue taking it as prescribed however if you experience the side effects the dose of oxybutynin may be reduced or an alternate effective but a safer medication for frequent urination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
