Is PSA Of 5.64 A Cause For Concern When Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer?

Hi, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in jan. He has a 4 + 3 =7 gleason score, bot his psa is 5.64. We get it checked every 6 mths. He is 74 yrs. old. But all tests show cancer on 1 side and nowhere else. The doctor wants to do 44 radiation treatments, 5 a week. Isn t there in jections or doing nothing at all better with a low psa.

Hi,

PSA level is important in screening and diagnosing prostate cancer, however, it's not a guide to the treatment. The PSA level do not predict what treatment would be best. It depends on the stage of cancer that is best done by biopsy and the Gleeson scoring. So I understand it's necessary to stick to the advice and go for the same treatment as advised to you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
