Is Permethrin Advisable For Itchy Rashes?

I ve had rashes on my arms for about 2 months now which has progressively become worse and worse and 9 days ago saw a doctor who thought I had scabies and started me on Permethrin. I was supposed to use all over, leave it on for 14 hours and then wash off, which I did. Since then, the rash has become even more severe to the point that I can t even sleep anymore the itching and burning is so bad. I try to sleep with soft ice packs but nothing is helping and the burning is so severe that I m about to rip my arms off...any suggestions to get the itching and burning to ease up?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I agree with your doctor that the symptoms seem to be related to scabies. I recommend using antihistamines to treat the itching such as Levocetirizine daily.

I also recommend to continue the medications given by your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
