Is Phenergan Advisable While On Calpol For Chronic Cough?

My 11 year old daughter has tonsillitis.She has a horrible cough that sounds like a seal. Would taking phenergan help her at all? She is on antibiotics, 10ml every 6 hours and calpol every 4. She has a high temperature, its been between 39 and 39.8 all day.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your daughter is suffering from viral infection and the symptoms of Tonsillitis, fever and cough are all due to it..

As it is a viral infection antibiotics will not help as they can treat bacterial infection and not virus..

Secondly Phenargan contains active ingredient Promethazine that acs against itchy eyes, runny nose,and allergy symptoms, therefore it can be given for cough relief..

As it is a viral infection you need to give her supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms as the disease will resolve only once the virus completes its cycle in human body..

You should make her do warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can continue giving Calpol to reduce fever and can also do cool sponges on her forehead and extremities..
Give her cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan and cough expectorant contatinig Gueifenesin.
Give her plenty of warm fluids and water..
Give her a soft and bland diet and avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Give sufficient rest..
