Is Prednisone Advisable For Rashes On The Upper Arms, Back, Neck And Armpits?

I was given a full course of antibiotic therapy in 5 doses Azithromycin. I ve taken Azithromycin in the past and never had any problems. On the 4th day, Rash/hives appeared under my upper arms and on the side back area. I decided to go back to the doctor after I noticed a patch of skin discoloration almost like a bruise and itch on both my inner thighs. Doctor did look at rash on my back and under my arms and prescribed Predisone. Now the rash has spread to the back of my neck and by my armpit. I did some research on the internet and I believe the images of fungal infection is what I have. Is it safe to take predisone?

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Since the rash appeared after taking Azithromycin, it apears to be an allergic manifestation of that drug. Prednisolone is a good drug to treat allergic rash. Once the incriminating drug has been stopped and prednisolone is continued for some more days, the rash should be under control. Usually fungal infection on skin will show small reddish papules with intense itching and invariably in a ring form. Plus may occur in areas where skin folds are there. My suggestion is continue prednisolone for a few more days. Do not discontinue it abruptly. It should be tapered and then stopped. thanks.
