Is Prednisone Advisable To Treat Shingles?

I was diagnosed with Shingles on july 8th. I am taking prednisone and and anti viral drug. The blisters have appeared and I understand they are now contagious. I assume that only if the blister is oozing? Also, someone told me that swimming in a pool that is treated with chlorine helped them? I am at a loss right now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thanks you for asking this question. I have undergone through your question. I understand your concern. Shingles is viral infection caused by herpes zoster virus. It is treated by acyclovir. Prednisolone is not used for treatment of Shingles. It will cause spread if infection. So stop using prednisolone. It is a contagious infection. Swimming in chlorinated water won't help you. You can apply calamine lotion locally. It will provide relief. Continue taking anti-viral medicine as suggested.
I hope this information will help you
I wish you a good health
