Is Prednisone Safe And Effective In The Treatment Of Bronchitis?

I have had Medrol dose pack in January and just finished another dose pack yesterday. Due to lingering symptoms of asthmatic bronchitis, I continue to spasmodically cough very frequently with productive thick phlegm and some upper airway wheezing. I have had Augmentin and Levaquin. Today doctor ordered Prednisone 40 mg QD x3 days and Z-pack (which I will start in 48 hours). Is it safe to start the Prednisone today?

Hello,

You have an acute exacerbation of Chronic bronchitis. 30–40 mg of oral prednisolone or its equivalent for a period of 10–14 days hastens recovery and is as per the GOLD guidelines recommendation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
