Is Promethazine Plus The Right Medicine For Cough In A Child?

Hello, I just gave my soon to be 7 yr old son 2.5ml of promethazine plus codeine. He s been up all night with a terrible cough and is unable to get any relief. However, I m feeling nervous about giving that to him now not knowing what the side effects might be (he has asthma too), so I m just wondering if I made a mistake giving that to him???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

It should be fine, don't worry yourself too much about it. But a specific dose is calculated for children based on their age and weight, but then again, don't worry too much about it. It shouldn't have any consequences.

Best wishes.
