Is Propranolol The Right Medicine For Intermittent Use For Anxiety?

I was prescribed Propranolol for intermittant use for anxiety, and was told to only take dose when needed. This use is also not well defined on the medication information handout given with medication. Is this medication widely used for intermittant use for anxiety? Thank you for your help.

It used to help some of the symptoms of anxiety but it would not treat the anxiety itself.

Anxiety can be associated with palpitations, nervousness, increased blood pressure, tremors. Anxiety would help with these symptoms.

It is normally combined with anti anxiety medication such as zoloft, citalopram, duloxetine, paxil, welbutrin etc

You may not have to use these medications for a long period of time but if you want to treat your anxiety with meds, one of these would be recommended.
