Is Protopic Safe To Use For Rash On Nipple During Pregnancy?

on my 38 week of pregnancy my obgyn prescribed protopic to use for a mild rash on my nipple. I asked him if I needed to use smt cause I intended to breastfeed my baby and I didn't want this to interfere in any way. Is it a common drug to prescribe for this case ? I found out this is a category c drug and it should be used only when other drugs have failed...my boy has severe developmental delays. does that constitute negligence?
