Is Reclipsen A Safe Medication For A Patient With Menorrhagia?
i have been experiencing menstrual hemorrhaging for the last 3 months due to fibroids and am now scheduled for a hysterectomy in August. I wanted a depo provera injection to help slow this bleeding until surgery but my doctor was out today and her on call prescribed Reclipsen instead of having me come in for the shot. I m not happy about this, I m 50 and I know my risk for blood clots and stroke is higher on the pill, the warnings also say to stop taking it 4 weeks prior to surgery, this isn t what I need in my opinion. I m also wondering why I d be prescribed anything with estrogen when I have fibroids?? am I right to be concerned about this medication?
Reclipsen is a combined oral contraceptive. One of the non contraceptive use of these pill is their usefulness in the treatment of menorrhagia. Estrogen and progesterone present in the drug will inhibit further production of these hormones in your body by inhibiting hormone secretions by pituitary gland. Thereby excess bleeding will be reduced. Bleeding caused by fibroids will also be reduced. Shrinking of fibroids can also occur with Reclipsen.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
