Is Rifaximin Effective In The Treatment Of IBS?
I am trying to figure out whether to take rifaximin for for IBS . I have had symtoms for most of my adult life. I have limited my diet- no dairy, no gluten, no onions , no garlic or avocados. I tried the fodmats routine and on and on. I believe that my symptoms are caused by too much bacteria in the lower intestine . My Dr. is willing to prescribe riflaximin if I choose to take it. It is just so hard to decide from any information that I can glean from the internet if I should try it. YYYY@YYYY

I can understand your concern. Rifaximine is relatively newer drug for IBS symptoms. The drug is an antibiotic drug but in a lot of studies the drug has been found to provide relief of IBS symptoms especially in diarrhoea predominant IBS. So if with conventional drug your symptoms are not controlled the you can think of taking this drug. No need to worry about that.
