General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Secnidazole is an antiamoebic agent, prescribed for giardiasis and amoebiasis. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity, during pregnancy and lactation.
This medication is classified as Category C, which means that there are no controlled, systematic studies on the influence of it in pregnancy.
Hence, it should not be used in pregnant women, especially during the first trimester.
Kindly consult Gynecologist and seek proper advise by giving them the details of how it was used, so as to decide what best can be done.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
