Is Sodium Valproate Prescribed To Treat Epileptic Disease And Seizures?
Hi , My brother is suffering from epilepsy from last 15 years , we have been visiting various doctors in the eastern part of India but have not received any positive medicine and help from the doctors. He has been under the medication from last 15 years and still the condition is same. He normally gets fits which stays around 15-20 sec and then he fall unconsciousness and goes for deep sleep** Before the fits he behave abruptly,does not listen properly or the concentration is less and does not sense anything, does not talk and eyes keep on blinking and lower jaw keeps on shaking ,, .. obersig all the medicine he is taking is - sodium valproate , - can anyone suggets me whether the medicine are correct ?
Hi Thanks for posting your query on HCM I have read and understood your concern. Sodium volproate is a good anti-epileptic drug.However, if seizures persist with this drug, other more potent anti-epileptics like tegretol and phenobarbital may be tried.I will advise you take him to a Neurologist for examination and better treatment. The Neurologist may also judge the need for an electroencephalogram and a brain scan. Hope this will help Best regards

Hi Thanks for posting your query on HCM I have read and understood your concern. Sodium volproate is a good anti-epileptic drug.However, if seizures persist with this drug, other more potent anti-epileptics like tegretol and phenobarbital may be tried.I will advise you take him to a Neurologist for examination and better treatment.
