Is Sotalol As Effective As Eliquis For The Treatment Of Atrial Fibrillation?
I am 80 yo and dx with A. Fib. I currently taking Eliquis, 5mg, Bid. The cost is high. I was looking at Sotalol and wondering if it would be comparable to Eliquis and perhaps at a lower cost. I also take Flecainide, 150mg, Bid. I will be seeing my cardiologist early in December and would suggest if you could answer the two questions. Thank you.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In fact Eliquis and Sotalol are totally different drugs they cannot be used for one another. Eliquis is for thinning the blood so that clot formation may be avoided. While Sotalol is used for rhythm control (for which you are already using flecainide) so I am afraid this cannot be done. You are very right that Eliquis has a high price, there are other less costly drugs available you can discuss this with your cardiologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
