Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have been tired especially in the mornings after taking my 50mcg of synthroid. I can sleep deeply for 4 hours afterward on the weekends. I would like to try taking it at night before bed. Does synthroid have any stimulant effects that might interfere with sleeping through the night? I normally take 1 lorazapham at night as I commonly have problems falling asleep. Thank-you Kris
Hello,my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi.Every thyroid patient for best results, should take the medication first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, and wait at least 30 minutes to an hour before eating. But some studies have found that taking the same dose of levothyroxine (Synthroid) at bedtime, as compared to first thing in the morning, may be better. Some patients had improved thyroid hormone profiles after they switched from taking their levothyroxine in the morning, to bedtime. If you do make a change to how you take your T3 thyroid medication, you'll want to have a reevaluation of blood levels and symptoms after several weeks, to determine if you need to adjust timing of your medication. Hope this was helpful.
