Is Type 1 Diabetes And Hand Foot And Mouth Disease Interrelated?

a friend of mine s son was just diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (he is 8). The endocrinologist they went to said there was an enviromental link betwee Type 1 and Hand foot and mouth disease. I have three children, my 2 year old has had Hand Foot and Mouth two times already and my older boys (6,8) have each had it once. Should I be concerned or what should I be looking or?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

The problem with diabetes is that there may be no symptom at all and the disease may be detected in many cases during a routine checkup

I would suggest testing the HbA1C of the children once annually. That will give you a fairly quick assessment at the onset of the diabetes.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Please feel free to ask another query. I would be glad to help you. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
(If the answer has helped you, please indicate this)
Best of luck.
