Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was recently diagnosed with mycosis fungoides, and I am also a diabetic. I am already taking a series of meds. My doctor fills that all I m going through, I am depressed, so prescribed venlafaxine HCl er 37.5mg. He says that it should help me, I m just leary, I ve never taken any meds, for depression. I ve never been diagnosed with depression. Please tell me if this okay, will I be addicted to this medication?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. No, venlafexine is not addictive drug. It is newer anti depressant drug. It is having good therapeutic effect with minimal side effects and substance abuse. So you can take it to support your depression. Depression is common in chronic infections like fungal infection, tuberculosis etc. So anti depressant drugs are needed to support. Once your infection is cured, you no longer need venlafexine. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
