Is Venlafaxine A Good Alternative Of Paxil?

I am significantly concerned, as I was prescribed Venlafaxine today seemingly to replace Paxil, which I ve taken for years. However, the Paxil had been relatively ineffective. Nevertheless, I just, literally moments ago, read the literature provided by my Pharmacist. Judas, it appears to me that nobody in their right mind, thinking of Living several more years, would consider such a medicine. Geeze, it borders on absurdity, stupidity and seems absolutely ludicrous! Forgive, please, my communicative style, as I do, friends and family will attest, tend to go on as nauseam.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You are very right, certain of the side effects of this drugs mentioned in the literature are really weary, however such type of side effects are very uncommon and most people don't have this. Another thing is that most of such effects are reversible after stopping the drug. Many people use the drug and most of them don't have any big problem. So if advised by your doctor, I think you should start taking it, starting from low dose and increasing if needed. If any time you feel it makes any thing worse for you (which is uncommon) you can always stop it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
