Is Vicodin Advisable For A Breast Feeding Mother?

I have a severely infected canine tooth and an abcessed wisdom tooth, is it save to take vicodin for pain while breastfeeding? I bf around 4 to 5 times a day and supplement with formula, normally I wouldnt risk taking anything but I m in so much pain I cant talk, eat, drink, sleep. ive gone 32 hours with no sleep due to pain!

Hello,

I am sorry for the pain you are suffering through. Vicodin is not advisable for paon control in breast feeding mothers as it contains opioid codiene which is secreted in breast milk and can harm the baby.

I would not advise you to take any other painkiller except Acetaminophen 500 thrice a day as that is the safest painkiller you can take at this time.

In addition, I woukd advise you to visit a dentist as for the pains you are having, treatment might solve the disease and you might not need to take any medication at all. Dental treatmenta are not contraindicated in you at this stage.
